Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique number that is issued to the citizens of the country by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on behalf of the Government. advertisementAs per the official website of UIDAI, Aadhaar cardholders can now update their name, date of birth and gender online. It is important that the details on your Aadhaar card such as name, date of birth etc. should match with the PAN, failing which you will not be able to link your PAN with Aadhaar.
Given below are the steps you can follow to update your Aadhaar card online.
Step 1: Visit the official website of UIDAI at www.uidai.gov.in.
Step 2: On the home page, tap on the 'My Aadhaar' tab. A drop-down menu will appear.
Step 3: From the provided options, choose and click on 'Update Demographics Data Online'.
Step 4: Now, a new tab will open on your screen. Click on the option 'Proceed to Update Aadhaar’.
Step 5: Enter your Aadhaar number and captcha code in the input fields for verification. Then, click on OTP.
Step 6: You will then receive a one-time password (OTP) on your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP to proceed further. Notably, the OTP is valid for 10 minutes only.
Step 7: Next, click on the tab 'Update Demographics Data'. You will now see a list of options that you can update. Select the options; name, DOB, gender.
Step 8: Upload supporting documents as per the chosen options. For instance, in the case of name, you will be required to submit a scanned copy of proof of identity such as PAN, passport etc. For the date of birth, a scanned copy of a birth certificate, passport and PAN will be required. All the uploaded documents should be valid and in the format of JPEG, PDF, PNG. Also, the size of the document should not exceed 2 MB.
Step 9: Now, you will be redirected to the payment page for making the payment.
Step 10: After the successful payment, an update request number (URN) will be generated. You must keep this for your future reference to check the Aadhaar card update status. You can download your acknowledgement copy as well.
